The Butte College Advanced Manufacturing Department hosted more than 70 seniors and juniors from 18 high schools on Tuesday, December 5, for its annual AMP Training. The event took place in Butte College's award-winning Welding and Manufacturing Facility.
Participating students demoed the latest manufacturing technology and equipment, including press brakes, CNC machinery, robotic welders, laser and plasma cutters, and used the new powder-coating facility. They also put their skills to the test and engaged in a friendly competition by completing a manufacturing project using all the available resources, machines, materials and assistance from instructors, manufacturing students and industry partners.
On December 6, students will be invited back to campus for the Grow Manufacturing Expo, a career exploration event hosted by Grow Manufacturing Grow Manufacturing Industry and Butte College. The expo is an opportunity for high school students and community members to meet potential employers and learn more about manufacturing career and internship options in the area.
"This is a great opportunity to show high school students the potential career opportunities in the manufacturing industry, the skills needed, and how Butte College can prepare them for a career in this high-demand, high-wage sector," said Don Robinson, dean of instruction.
